Here are a few of our favorite Big Ideas from Week 4!
Big Idea #1: Common Social Media Mistakes
Mike Mahler highly recommends social media. Not only is social media a powerful way to advertise your products, it can also be an avenue to meet new people, and test out different ideas, but Mike recommends you be careful when it comes to approaching social media. 3 common mistakes in social media include:
Selling too often - No one is going on Facebook and twitter to look for things to buy. They want information. Generally they are looking for interactions with positive similar minded people. You want to make your page a party that people enjoy visiting. Not a site where they are being pitched on products and services everyday.
Too Personal - Share what you do on a daily basis from time to time as it lets people you know you are a real person, but donʼt over do it. The real focus should be on your business. Otherwise it is easy to get distracted and waste several hours on Facebook and twitter.
Links - Posting links to articles and clips doesn't build your brand. Sharing links and video clips is okay, but the best use of Facebook and twitter is actual content from you. This means articles you have written, video clips you have done, training and nutrition tips from you, etc.
Big Idea #2: Make The Best Of Social Media
- Get people to add you on Facebook or join your fan page by getting more traffic to your website and asking them to follow you on Twitter and join your Facebook fan page. Facebook and Twitter buttons are on every page of Mike's site: http://www.mikemahler.com/
- Have a signature with your email that asks people to follow you on twitter and join your fan page
- Personal pages have a 5000 limit so get a fan page going ASAP and utilize it daily. No member limit with fan pages. You can convert your personal page into a fan page which is a great time saver. You canʼt see what other are doing, but they can see what you're doing.
- Utilize Facebook advertising. Extremely targeted and great way to build your fan page.
Big Idea #3: Strategy
Remember: The real goal of Facebook and Twitter is to drive traffic to your website where they can make purchases and learn more about you. Facebook and Twitter are great ways to stay in touch with visitors and keep them returning to your website often. Mike recommends:
- Keep a training journal and post it on Facebook with a link back to your site.
- Set up your Facebook so the Facebook fan page posts automatically show up on your Twitter feed.
- Ask your fans and followers for advice and their opinion on certain topics to increase engagement!
