Here are a few of our favorite Big Ideas from Week 2 - The Secret Weapon for Weight Loss.
Big Idea #1: The Danger of Toxins
The bad news is that we are constantly surrounded by toxins. They're in our sheets when we sleep at night, the detergent that we use to wash those sheets, even the air that's being pumped through our air conditioners. Even organic food has a degree of toxicity because it's usually grown close to other food that has been sprayed with toxins.
How does this relate to weight loss? The body stores these toxins inside fat. The body does this to protect us. But if we want to get rid of the fat, we need to clear the toxins out of our system. Once you release the toxicity, the body will feel comfortable releasing the excess weight.
Not only that, but once the toxins are out of your body, you will feel a greater amount of energy, joy and peace in both body and mind. Life without toxins is amazing!
Big Idea #2: The Secret Key to Cleansing
There are many things that can help us cleanse. But the biggest player here is alkalines! These are elements in food that act as little sponges and absorb all the acidity of toxins, taking them out of our body.
The best places to get alkalines are fresh fruits and vegetables, pure water, and fruit/vegetable juice.
Vegetable juice is the Bruce Lee of alkalines. It packs a strong punch, permeating the bloodstream within fifteen minutes of consumption and cleaning and scrubbing everything on the inside. This week, in addition to the raw foods and whole foods we've been introducing into our diet, try to focus on green juices.
The best ingredients are things like kale, parsley, cilantro, tomatoes and fresh herbs. Feel free to play around and spice up your drinks. Throw in a lemon for zest or a green apple for that refreshing flavor. The ideal that we're going for is a liter a day, preferably as your first meal.
You may notice some emotional detox taking place as you detox your body. Your mood might be a little wobbly. Breathe and stay present to what comes up. This is your body/mind system purging years of accumulated garbage from the body temple.
Big Idea #3 - Walking in the World
The question often comes up, "This is all great, but how can I eat this healthy stuff when I go to visit my family or go out to a restaurant with friends or have an important business meeting?"
We need to let go of our responsibility for the comfort of the people around us when that comfort is making us sick. So, if you go to visit that uncle that always cooks the greasy chicken, bring your own healthy food, apologize, and say that your doctor has asked you to eat the healthy stuff. When you go to a restaurant, go for the salad. Every restaurant has a salad. And don't be afraid to spice the salad up with your own avocados and nuts that you bring along with you.
You're the one who gives yourself permission to eat healthy and live with joy.
