Here are a few of our favorite Big Ideas from Week 1 - Kiss the Pounds Goodbye - Forever.
Big Idea #1 - Even Better than Knowledge!
We've all heard that old saying, Knowledge is Power. And that's a great piece of wisdom. But the truth is, if all we have is knowledge without any action, we're not gonna' get anything done. We often hear people saying that they know everything about nutrition. But are they putting it into practice?
Here's a new one for you: Consistent Action is Power. Write that down and put it on your fridge. Only when we take action consistently, day after day after day, can any real change occur. So let's get some real power. Let's do what it takes to create the health we deserve!
Big Idea #2 - Transforming Our Addiction to Junk
We are really habituated to junk food. We're so used to those layers of sugar, the sprinkles of salt and spices, the oily, fatty textures against our tongues. We love it! So, at first, as we begin to love our body and take in new, healthier foods, the taste of the veggies, fruits and whole foods might be strange. Even something as simple and delicious as a carrot might taste weird, and we're gonna' long for that bag of potato chips.
But trust the process. The body loves transformation. It loves trying new things that are good for it. As you continue eating the new, wonderful, healthy foods that we introduce in this class, your body will come to love them and crave them more and more.
Big Idea #3 - Stop and Smell the Apples
If you're going to have real transformation, you need to return to your senses. As a society, we've become completely disconnected from our food. When is the last time you really inhaled an apple and connected with its amazing scent? When you're at the store, stop and smell the food you are buying. Sure, the people around you might think you're weird. But your body will be connecting to the healthy fruits and vegetables that are going to truly nourish it. Enjoy the colors, the smells, the texture of the food.
Begin to see food as a celebration and the preparation of meals as a creative act.
